Our organic wines

Homage to the Provence terroir

Nestling in the heart of the Var area, the vineyard spans 99 acres of organically-grown vines and produces five organic rosé, red and white wines.

  • Château Saint-Roux Rosé unveils a complexity and structure rarely found in Côtes de Provence wines, reflecting the unique Saint-Roux terroir.
  • Friponne is a fresh and supple Vin de Pays des Maures (IGP Maures) embodying the generosity and authenticity of Saint-Roux.
  • Blended by our winemakers, Le Pigeonnier is an ode to the Saint-Roux philosophy. It is produced in rosé, red and white.

A RICH SOIL

The estate’s orange and vermilion soil is at the origin of the name Saint Roux. Rich in iron and bauxite, its essential nutrients produce very aromatic wines.
Planted in a windy corridor, the vines are naturally protected from disease and therefore ideally suited to organic farming.

WINEMAKING & NATURAL YEASTS

Our wines are elaborated using natural, local yeasts to procure complex aromas and a unique signature, in line with our commitment to expressing the terroir as faithfully as possible. Exceptional among Côtes de Provence AOP wines, this approach allows us to produce genuinely typical wines.

INNOVATION & BIODIVERSITY

The estate has developed an experimental plot in collaboration with the Var Chamber of Agriculture, used to analyse the behaviour of various grapes in the aim of adapting to global warming. The plot is planted with drought-resistant and typical southern varietals: Mourvèdre Gris, Mourvèdre Blanc, Touriga Nacional, Calabrese and Mavrud.

TASTING ROOM & CAFÉ SHOP

The ideal venue for savouring our wines out on the terrace or at the fireside. The café is also a great place to discover our home-grown organic produce and local farm fare. Create your own salad with our vegetable hampers when you pop in for a coffee or afternoon snack.

Learn more about the wines from our organic wine estate

The Côtes de Provence appellation covers more than 20,000 hectares spread over three departments: Var, Bouches-du-Rhône and Communes des Alpes-Maritimes which brings together 84 communes.
For organic wines, the doses are more than acceptable and the products are more natural. The culture is more natural. Wine growers use organic fertilizers such as slurry, compost and homeopathic remedies. Grapes absorb nutrients from the soil, which improves product quality.
Wines labeled organic have several attributes, including respect for the environment and the health of consumers by not using chemical pesticides. Positive effect on the environment: no chemical pesticides.
There are many preservatives, but these are naturally present in grapes. A powerful antioxidant that allows wine to stand the test of time. As such, it is used in wine to prevent spoilage of wine by unwanted bacteria.
This makes wine more sensitive to storage and seasonal temperature variations. Wines without added sulfur not only require absolutely perfect vinification conditions (a real tightrope walker: one mistake is fatal), but also optimal storage and preservation conditions. In particular, it never exceeds 14°C. A condition that most wine merchants and individuals cannot fulfill.
To enjoy organic wine, it is essential to use the included wine glasses. However, we recommend serving organic wines in glasses that have been washed briefly with hands and hot water.
The grapes are maintained and cultivated using organic farming, while preserving the surrounding biodiversity. Harvested by hand and vinified without additives. Each step is carried out directly by two winegrowers.
